What is Functional Nutrition?
Nowadays there seem to be so many different types of medicine and it can get a little confusing. To put it simply, Western Medicine which is commonly practiced here in the US is the type of healthcare that is centered around addressing illness and disease by conventional means, such as pharmaceuticals. These drugs are prescribed to help manage existing symptoms. For example, if you have high blood pressure, chances are you have been prescribed medication to help manage it. The issue with this method is that while the pill is doing a (very important) job of keeping you alive, it is not getting you healthy or eliminating the problem that is causing your blood pressure to be high in the first place. This means that you will have to continue to take this medication forever, and if you don’t there could be serious consequences. This medicine is acting as a band-aid to a much larger problem, instead of helping to eliminate and heal the problem altogether.
This is why a functional approach is so effective. Without changing anything about your medications right away, within the functional method approach, we get to the ROOT of the problem and help your body do what it’s designed to do, heal itself! Through various pillars such as nutrition, lifestyle, diagnostic testing, and more, the functional method aims to identify the cause of your health conditions and create a plan, designed specifically for you, to help you heal from the inside out. In functional nutrition, we focus on a systems approach to health that accounts for how interrelated every part of your body is. With this approach, we figure out how to bring your body back into harmony to optimize your health, your mood, and your life.
